The Scottish Borders is one of the most accessible destinations in Scotland, featuring rolling hills, expansive countryside, and a scenic coastline. The area is steeped in history, boasting captivating abbeys, textile mills, and magnificent stately homes and castles.
However, the Scottish Borders has always traditionally been an agricultural region. Nowadays approximately 85% of the land here is used for farming purposes. As it is quite a large region, it is home to some diverse habitats which reflect the type of farming which occurs – from sheep rearing farms in the Southern Uplands, Lammermuir and Moorfoot Hills, to the rich arable areas of Roxburghshire and the Merse of Berwickshire.
Fife is an excellent destination for agritourism. Whether you're coming for a day trip or a few nights away, make sure to bring plenty of shopping bags! There are several fantastic farm shops here, selling everything from home-grown beef and lamb to freshly picked vegetables and pick-your-own soft fruits.
You'll be spoiled for choice when finding the perfect accommodation, with luxury lodges, cute shepherds' huts, and traditional farmhouses on offer. There are also great activities for the whole family, such as alpaca tours, behind-the-scenes farm experiences, and a huge maize maze during the summer months!
