Go Rural from Stirling: Farm Stays

Once the capital of Scotland, Stirling is surrounded by rich farmland. There are loads of opportunities to stay locally on a farm and take a day trip into Stirling to take in the magnificent views from Stirling Castle's with a landscape that includes the National Wallace Monument, the rolling Ochil Hills, the mountain peaks of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs. 

Local farmers markets also provide an opportunity to speak to local farmers and food producers and pick up some tasty treats.

3 miles: Gateway Cottages, Stirling

6 miles: Carr's Hill, Denny

8 miles: Mains Farm Wigwams, Thornhill

This wonderful Wigwam, Caravan and Camping Park is situated on the outskirts of Thornhill with a panoramic view over the Carse of Stirling to the Fintry Hills.

9 miles: West Moss-side Organic Farm, Stirling

West Moss-side Organic Farm is a very special place set in the stunning landscape yet close to the cities of Stirling, Glasgow and Edinburgh.   

From the decking of their yurts there are panoramic big-sky views to the west across Flanders Moss National Nature Reserve to Ben Lomond and the Arrochar Alps and north to the mountains of the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park – Ben Ledi, Ben Vorlich and Stuc a’ Chroin. They provide a great location for close encounters with the natural world, walking, cycling and enjoying this lovely part of Scotland. 

You can also buy their beef direct from the farm freezer.

Over the years they have hosted a huge variety of workshops in their hayloft.

10 Miles: Arnbeg Farmstay, Kippen

Sitting in the heart of Scotland, this modern, luxurious, 4 bedroom farmhouse offers a home from home and is perfect for either chilling out, or as a base for exploring nearby Stirling and Loch Lomond. From its elevated position you have stunning panoramic views of the Cruachan Mountain Range and surrounding farmland from all aspects.

15 miles: Nether Glenny, Port of Menteith

Nether Glenny Farm is nestled in the Menteith hills in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.  

The farm overlooks the Lake of Menteith and is only a short scenic drive to Aberfoyle and Stirling. 

The Bothy is nestled in the hillside and an 'off grid' magical blissful retreat for two people.  The Buzzard has been converted from an old barn into a gorgeous cottage offering a country yet lush vibe, the Kestrel is a beautiful one bedroomed traditional white cottage, enjoying panoramic views over the crystal clear Lake of Menteith and the Merlin is perfect for a couples’ romantic break.

This is an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding hills or a place to spend some quality time together and simply relax.

Nether Glenny

20 Miles: Duncan Family Farms, Balfron

The three farms are run by the second and third generations of the Duncan family. 

The Heft & The Hirsel are two bespoke luxury glamping pods located on their family farm. Situated within Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park with panoramic views from their large private decks, they offer a secluded and relaxing stay. 

With its unique location on the banks of Loch Lomond, ‘Stable Cottage’ is a cosy self-catering cottage which was part of the original farmhouse at Inveruglas and is now a listed building. The cottage is located discretely in the corner of the working farm steading.

Duncan Family Farms started selling their produce direct from the farm so when staying, enjoy some of their home-grown, grass fed lamb, hogget and mutton.
